Foyt Indy Car Project
Start date 08/31/01

mvc-143s.jpg (56752 bytes) This car is a 1971 Foyt Coyote with a 255 cu in. four cam Ford engine. It was driven by Donnie Allison in the 1971 Indianapolis 500.
Started 20th and finished 6th completing 199 laps
The engine is being outfitted with a onboard starter to make the car more practical in vintage car events. As is Bruces' tradition he designed and fabricated the mounting of a Tilton starter and flywheel. It will use their 3 disk 7" clutch package.
The engine came unassembled but with all the parts in boxes. It will be a matter of inspecting and measuring each piece before assembly.

mvc-14ds.jpg (39419 bytes) The interior as it was when the car was raced. The steering wheel was only a half wheel. This was before quick release steering wheels.
The project is starting to come together ( june of 2002) . Nothing major has been done to the tub other than clearence made for the onboard starter. The right side fuel cell has been removed to make room for a battery and a fire extinguisher system. foytcar left.jpg (67651 bytes)
ford eng rt bank.jpg (71038 bytes) Some photos of the engine after being assembled and run in on the dyno. It is set up to run on alcohol. Note the beautiful exhaust system which is fabricated in stainless steel. These engines have a sound all their own.
foytcar rt rear.jpg (60285 bytes) ford engfront.jpg (76202 bytes)
foytcar parts.jpg (82497 bytes) The photo to the left shows some of the parts that have been rebuilt and replated. The parts include half shafts. sway bar and arms.
Bruce machined these splined parts in house as these were not with the car as received.
Further updates as progress and time permit.

Below are some current photos of the final assembly progress. As you can see the project is close to wrapping up. The next update will most likely show the car on the ground and possibly a video clip of it under power in the parking lot.
